BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan today expressed optimism that the interim government would expedite preparations for a free and fair election and return power to the people promptly.
"We have brought down fascism, but democracy is yet to be fully restored. This restoration will come through a free, fair, and neutral election. Preparations for that are ongoing," he said while attending a winter clothing distribution event marking the 44th anniversary of Krishak Dal at the party's Naya Paltan headquarters.
Nazrul emphasised the need for credible elections.
"We hope these preparations are completed swiftly so power can return to the people without delay," he said.
He also acknowledged the current government's mandate, saying, "Those now in charge were entrusted with this responsibility by the people, not through force. It is their duty to govern effectively."
Highlighting past controversies over electoral integrity, Nazrul stressed the importance of a transparent process.
"There must be no repetition of past malpractices—no elections without votes, no midnight voting, no dummy voting. The interim government must ensure a system that reflects the will of the people," he added.
