Protests erupt over tree felling, construction at Panthakunja Park

Construction work for the Dhaka Elevated Expressway at Panthakunja Park near Karwan Bazar has drawn sharp criticism from environmentalists and locals.

The project, which involves tree felling and disruption to green spaces, prompted protesters to form a human chain at the park today.Organised by Gach Rokkha Andolan (Movement to Save Trees), the demonstrators demanded an immediate halt to the construction.

They condemned the destruction of Panthakunja Park and the adjoining Hatirjheel, urging the authorities concerned to prioritise environmental preservation over urban development.
